How to Tape your Breasts for a Strapless Look
If you can’t wear a bra with your dress, there’s a fantastic braless way to lift your breasts and create great cleavage. And it actually works, even for those of us with bigger boobs!
I call this “Breast Taping”, or using “Boob Tape”.
Celebs like Kim K do it, and guess what? So can we! We just need to learn the right technique.
1. What exactly is boob tape?
Boob tape refers to the tape you’ll use in order to tape your boobs, which can be anything from duct tape (ouch!) to athletic tape. You can use a variety of tapes, but keep in mind that some tapes are stronger than others.
I recommend Gaffer Tape or Medical Tape.
Gaffer Tape has a very strong hold, which means it holds in place and provides the most support. But it’s also painful to take off! You can also use Medical Tape, which will hurt slightly less, but it won’t be as resistant. It’s up to your needs. Kim Kardashian is a Gaffer Tape advocate. Just sayin!
2. Before You Tape: Prep
Make sure your skin isn’t oily or the tape won’t stick. This means that you shouldn’t apply moisturizer or lotion prior to taping.
Also make sure to patch test for allergic reactions to the glue. Keep in mind that some redness is normal if you have sensitive skin. If irritation occurs, rest assured that it won’t cause any permanent damage.
Method For A Plunge/Backless Dress
Kim Kardashian uses this method for wearing plunge dresses all the time. Your taping should look like hers in the picture above, but you can tweak it depending on your dress (for example if your straps are thinner).
- Step 1: Cut a long strip of tape (about 12 inches) and tape it on the outer part of your boob, from the base of your boob to your shoulder. Lift your breast to give it some lift, and tape up. The tape should be long enough to go up to your shoulders for maximum lift and hold, but this will depend on your dress.
- Step 2: Repeat with 2 more strips of tape, this time going inwards. Don’t forget to place a cotton pad on your nipples before taping that area!
- Step 3: Repeat on the other boob.
- Step 4 (Optional): Depending on where the plunge ends, you can also use tape horizontally under your breasts. If your dress allows it, take a long piece of tape and tape it horizontally under your breasts, lifting them up and bringing them together. This should give you even more of a push-up effect.
Method For A Strapless/Backless Dress
You can also use the taping method if you’re wearing a strapless backless dress. In this case, your taping technique will look like this:
- Step 1: You can either lean over of lie down on your back before you tape. Whatever it takes to create the shape you want, which generally means lifting and bringing the breasts closer together.
- Step 2: Take a long strip of tape (about 12 inches or more). Start taking under your boobs from one side to the other, while making sure to encapsule them. You can bring the tape higher or lower on the sides, depending on your dress.
- Step 3: Repeat the same thing with 2 more strips of tape that go above the previous one. Don’t forget to place a cotton pad to cover your nipples under the tape.
Removing The Tape
Taking the take off isn’t pleasant, but you can use these tips to make it slightly less painful.
If you can, take a hot back with the tape still on. Taking a shower also helps loosen up the tape. Don’t wait too long after your bath or shower to pull the tape off.
When pulling the tape off, dab some olive oil on your skin as you pull. You can do this by pulling the tape slowly with one hand, and dabbing with your other hand.
